KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its first Cross Country Runners of the Week honors on Saturday, and it was a clean sweep for Benedictine Cross Country.
Joshua Melendez was named the Heart Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week while Elizabeth Skendzel was named the Heart Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Melendez competed on Saturday at the Baker Wildcats Classic and took home a second place finish in a field of 62 runners with a time of 24:49.28. In just her second collegiate competition, Skendzel took home the Baker Wildcat Classic first place medal on Saturday with a time of 22:59.27.
Benedictine has started out the season with a pair of strong outings, first at the Spire Sunset Showdown, followed by Saturday's top finishes. The programs are off until Sept. 26, when they travel to Columbia, Mo., for the Gans Creek Classic hosted by the University of Missouri.
