OVERLAND PARK – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced the annual list of Heart Scholar Athletes this week with a total of 1,923 student-athletes from across the conference were honored for their academic and athletic success throughout the 2025-26 academic year.

With 147 total student-athletes recognized on the list, Benedictine Athletics tallied the third-most on the list behind Grand View University and Mount Mercy University, both of which tallied 186.

"I want to congratulate our student-athletes who have been named a Heart Scholar Athlete," said Benedictine Athletic Director Charlie Gartenmayer. "The announcement is a reminder of what it took to accomplish everything that our coaches and support staff helped our student-athletes accomplish last year. It's also a nice reminder of what our expectations are for the new year and we are excited to welcome our fall student-athletes back to campus."

During the 2024-25 academic year, Benedictine earned 90 Heart Scholar Athletes. To qualify for Heart Scholar-Athlete honors must be a varsity student-athlete, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale and have completed at least 60 credit hours (undergraduate and/or graduate), attended the nominating institution for at least two semesters prior to nomination and participated in varsity competition in the sport for which they were nominated.

There is no limit to the number each institution can nominate for the honors, and associate members of the conference are also eligible to nominate student-athletes for recognition.
