Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Explodes for 14-Goal Night

For the first time under head coach Lincoln Roblee, the Raven women's soccer team scored 14 goals in a match.

Tuesday night, Benedictine (3-0-0) remained undefeated with a 14-0 win over the University of St. Mary Spires (0-1-0). The 14-goal effort bests the previous high of 12 goals scored against Harris-Stowe back on Sept. 17, 2007.

During the 2009 season, the Ravens had three double-digit shutout efforts, scoring 11 goals twice – once against USM in Leavenworth and the second against Culver-Stockton at home.

The Ravens had seven players find the back of the net in the win.

Forwards Bethany Smith (Soph., Overland Park) and Tara Russell (Soph., Olathe) each scored three times while midfielder Ashley Chandler (Fr., Kansas City, Mo.) and defender Ashley Washburn (Jr., Overland Park) each scored twice.

Defender Jessica Raplinger (Sr., Kansas City, Kan.), midfielder Erin O'Brien (Sr., Overland Park) and midfielder Katherine Corbella (Sr., Belleville, Ill.) wrapped up the Ravens offensive explosion.

Benedictine struck first during the fourth minute of play forward when Smith scored the first of her three goals on the night off an assist from midfielder Natalie Henson (Sr., St. Charles, Mo.)

During the seventh minute, O'Brien netted the Ravens second goal.

By halftime, the Ravens had found the net eight times with an own goal credited to USM.

Raplinger scored off an assist from midfielder Rachel Baronovic (Jr., St. Charles, Mo.) during the 12th minute. Smith added an unassisted goal during the 18th minute and Washburn connected on a free kick from 35 yards out during the 26th minute for the first of her two-goal effort.

Russell wrapped two of her goals around the USM own goal to close out the first half. Her first goal was off and assist from forward Cassie Trandahl (Soph., Lindstrom, Minn.) during the 41st minute and her second came as time expired at the half off and assist from Chandler.

By halftime, the Ravens held a 17-1 advantage in shots and the halftime lead could have been much higher if not for the six-save effort of USM starting keeper Lindsay Davis.

In the second half, the Ravens added six more goals.

Washburn scored her second goal inside the first two minute of the half on an unassisted goal and was followed up by an O'Brien-Smith combination that gave Smith her third goal of the match during the 58th minute.

Chandler scored seconds later to extend the Ravens lead to 11-0 before midfielder Corbella added a goal off an assist from defender Kara Hines (Fr., Prairie Village) during the 78th minute.

Benedictine netted two more goals, the first on Chandler's second unassisted goal during the 79th minute and then Russell added her third goal of the match during the 85th minute.

Raven keepers Ashley Holland (Jr., Omaha) and Sally Feldewart (Soph., Sante Fe N.M.) combined for the shutout – a rule change for collegiate soccer in 2012 allows both keepers to get official credit for the shutout. Holland played the first half while Feldewart finished the game in goal.

Benedictine finished with a 32-1 advantage in shots and a 21-0 advantage in shots on goal.

The Ravens return to the BC Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. Saturday as they host Park University.
