Joe Sbarro earns national honor

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Raven men's soccer player Joe Sbarro (Jr., Kansas City, Mo.) was one of two players recognized by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on Tuesday for their efforts during the previous week.

Sbarro helped guide the Ravens to a 2-0 week and along with Luke Baxter of Bellevue (Neb.) University, the duo as named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week respectively.

Sbarro, recorded a pair of hat tricks in two victories for the Ravens last week.

In the 7-0 win over Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Sept. 19, Sbarro went for his first hat trick of the year. On Sept. 22 against Friends (Kan.), he found the back of the net three more times.

He has posted seven goals in the past three matches - in the five matches prior to that, he totaled one goal.

In the NAIA statistical rankings, Sbarro is 18th in goals (8) and 19th in goals per game (1.0).

The honor for Sbarro is the first NAIA individual honors earned by a member of the Raven men's soccer team since the first NAIA weekly award during the 2009 season.
