Men's Basketball hosts rival Baker University

The first meeting of the 2012-13 season between Benedictine and Baker University marks the 42nd meeting between the Ravens and the Wildcats since Benedictine joined the Heart of America Athletiic Conference for the 1992-'93 season. Benedictine holds a narrow 22-19 advantage over that time period.

The two programs have split their last two regular season match ups, with Baker getting a leg up on Benedictine in their last meeting of the 2011-12 season. The Wildcats knocked Benedictine out of the HAAC Postseason Tournament en route to its first-ever appearance at the Buffalo-Funds NAIA Div. I National Championshps.

Last season's tournament pairing was the first time the two schools had ever met in the conference tournament.

Under head coach Ryan Moody, the Ravens have continued to make a name for themselves as a solid defensive team. ... After finishing the 2011-12 season ranked No. 3 in NAIA Div. I in scoring defense (61.7), the Ravens are currently among the national leaders in the same category this season. ... Benedicitne has allowed just 60.3 ppg through 19 games this season, ranking them at No. 6 in NAIA Div. I. ... The top team in NAIA Div. I in scoring defense is the current No. 1-ranked Columbia (Mo.) College Cougars. Benedictine took on Columbia back on Dec. 14 and fell 66-54. ... The Cougars are currently giving up 55.7 ppg through 18 games, having given up a total of 1,002 points. ... Raven forward Charlie Wallrapp (Jr., Omaha) has settled in nicely during his second year under Coach Moody. He is averaging 13.7 ppg and 8.1 rebounds. His five double-doubles ranks him third in the HAAC. He is also tied with 10 others for 19th in the NAIA and is one of 29 players to tally a double-double at least five times. ... While the Ravens may not rank among the top five in the HAAC in points per game, they are ranked in a tie for fourth in field goal percentage at 44.2 percent.

While Baker is led by a first-year head coach in Sean Dooley, Coach Dooley is no stranger to success. ... Dooley came to Baker after serving as one of the top assists for Columbia (Mo.) College. He served the past five seasons as the lead assistant coach for NAIA Hall of Famerr Bob Burchard. ... Forward Ben Steinlage is the leading scorer for the Wildcats at 14.1 ppg and is one of eight players back from last seasons national-tournament qualifying team. ... Transfer Christopher Lockhurt is the Wildcats second-leading scorer at 9.9 ppg and has appeared in 15 of Baker's 16 games. He comes to Baker from Prairie State College, a junior college in Chicago Height, Ill. ... Lockhurt ranks 13th in NAIA Div. I in 3-point field goal percent, converting 46.7 percent from beyond the arc. ... As a team, the Wildcats are shooting 34.5 percent from beyond the arc with just 22 percent of their total field goals coming off 3-pointers.
