Central Methodist ends Men's Basketball season in HAAC Quarterfinals

FAYETTE, Mo. – The Raven men's basketball season drew to a close on Thursday night on the road in the HAAC Postseason Tournament quarterfinals against Central Methodist University.

Benedictine (18-12), the tournament fifth seed was outscored by 15 points in the second half by CMU (19-12), the tournament fourth seed as the Eagles earned a 81-69 win.

The Ravens limited the Eagles to just 9 of 26 from the floor in the first half while knocking in 12 of 27 to lead by three, 29-26, at the break.

While the Ravens heated up in the second half, converting on 56 percent from the floor, the Eagles also took fire over the games final 20 minutes.

The first five minutes of the second half saw three ties and three lead changes, the final lead change put CMU ahead of Benedictine 40-39.

It would be a lead that CMU never gave up.

Benedictine closed within a possession six times, the final time coming on a 3-pointer from Shawn Fleming Jr. (Fr., Dayton, Ohio) that pulled Benedictine within two, 67-65, with two minutes and 48 seconds remaining.

CMU closed out Benedictine over the final two minutes of the game, outscoring Benedictine 14-4 to advance to the HAAC Postseason Tournament semifinals.

Benedictine got a strong effort off the bench in the loss as the Ravens outscored the Eagles 36-18.

Forward TJ Stevens (Sr., Overland Park) led Benedictine with 18 points while Fleming added 17 points. Guard Brett Fisher (Soph., Overland Park) and forward Charlie Wallrapp (Jr., Omaha) each added 9 points to round out the Ravens top scorers.

CMU was led by the game-high 25 points of Melvin Tillman.
