Softball snaps losing skid with home split against Avila University

The Raven softball team stopped a four-game skid on Tuesday afternoon splitting their second doubleheader of the week against Avila University.

The Eagles outlasted Benedictine in game one, winning 4-3 in 10 innings before Benedictine salvaged the split taking game two 8-2.

Katelyn Nill (Jr,. Lenexa) went all 10 innings in the game-one loss, giving up four runs off 10 hits while striking out five.

At the plate, the Ravens belted out 10 hits but stranded 13 base runners.

Shortstop Megan Eldridge (Soph., Arvada, Colo.) continued her hot streak at the plate with a 3 for 4 effort recording a double for Benedictine's only extra base hit of game one.

Left fielder Allison McCormick (Jr., Pittsburg) and catcher Carli Dankenbring (Soph., Rossville) each added a two hit effort in the loss.

In game two, the Ravens rallied behind starter Mallory Goulding (Fr., Plainfield, Ill.) Goulding threw a complete game in the win, scattering nine hits over seven innings while holding the Eagles scoreless after the third inning.

Offensively, the Ravens gave Goulding plenty of support, scoring two runs in the first, second third and fifth innings.

Designated player Crystal Haugness (Fr., Edgerton, Mo.) recorded her first career home run in game two for one of Benedictine's two extra base hits. Right fielder Kellie Bachkora (Fr., Lee's Summitt, Mo.) added a double.

Second baseman Katie Rickleffs (Fr. Topeka) was the only Ravens with a two-hit game in the night cap, going 2 for 3 while third baseman Ashley Dobbie (Sr., Overland Park), along with Haughness, finished with two RBIs.

The Ravens are off until Friday when they wrap up their six-game homestand at 2 p.m. against Evangel University back at the BC Softball Field.
