Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 19 Women's Soccer edged by No. 9 Oklahoma City University

Playing their third match of the week on a rare Sunday afternoon, the No. 19 Raven women's soccer team hosted No. 9 Oklahoma City University at the BC Soccer Complex.

After overcoming a 1-0 halftime advantage, Benedictine (3-1) held a 2-1 advantage over Oklahoma City (2-1) headed into the final 20 minutes of the match before the Stars scored two unanswered goals to hand Benedictine its first loss of the season, 3-2.

The two teams were very evenly matched with Oklahoma City taking advantage of a set piece on a corner kick during the 25th minute which gave them the lead 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Ravens continued to attack the offensive zone when finally forward Bethany Smith was dragged down inside the six-yard box by Oklahoma City's Allie Glazner drawing a foul and giving the Ravens a penalty kick. Midfielder Rachel Baranovic converted the PK and evened the match during the 51st minute.

The match remained tied until the 71st minute when forward Jordan Francescon was able to clean up a loose ball in the six-yard box and put it in the goal by Oklahoma City keeper Alissa Reed.

The Ravens lead was short-lived as seconds later in the 71st minute, Oklahoma City's Meghan McMahon scored a quick restart to tie the match.

McMahon pushed the Stars ahead for good during the 79th minute to hand the Ravens their first loss of the season.

Raven keeper Ashley Holland finished with four saves while allowing four goals. Reed tallied nine saves while giving up just two goals.

The Ravens held a 16-12 advantage in shots and a 11-7 in shots on goal.

Benedictine returns to the road on Wednesay when they travel to Parkville, Mo., to take on the Park Univesity Pirates at 6 p.m.
