LEAVENWORTH – The Raven Women's Basketball team led to wire-to-wire on Friday night and earned a convincing 84-58 win over the University of St. Mary at the St. Mary Classic.
Benedictine (2-2) picked up the convincing win by outscoring USM 15-0 on second-chance points while scoring 24 points off 23 Spire turnovers.
Benedictine held USM scoreless for the first three minutes of the game while opening up the game on a 15-2 run offensively.
The Ravens led by as much as 16 points in the first half before the Spires cut that lead to nine points, 42-33, by halftime.
After hitting on 40 percent from the floor in the second half, the Ravens connected on a 62.5 percent effort in the second half while defensively limiting USM to just seven second-half field goals.
Benedictine outscored USM 42-25 in the second half to run away with the 26-point win.
Four Ravens reached double figures in the win, led by the game-high 18 points of Jayde Reid. Chayla Rutledge, Claire Pedulla and Kristen Murphy added 13 points each round out the Ravens top scorers.
Benedictine's bench outscored USM's 31-20 anchored by Pedulla and Murphy.
The Ravens wrap up the Classic at 1 p.m. Saturday with a match up against Ottawa University back in Leavenworth.
