LEAVENWORTH – The Raven softball team earned a road sweep over the University of St. Mary on Thursday as they took a pair of games against the Spires to snap a six-game losing streak.
Benedictine (3-6) took game one 8-3 and the wrapped up the sweep with a 4-3 win in game two.
Katelyn Nill recorded a complete game in the opener. She scattered three runs off five hits over seven innings to earn the win.
At the plate, the Ravens scored their eight runs off six hits breaking the game open with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Jenna Fitzpatrick, Allison McCormick, Katie Ricklefs and Sierra Esau drove in two runs each with Esau scoring three runs in the five-run win.
In game two, Ricklefs and Abby Rector combined to pitch for the Ravens.
Ricklefs threw the first four innings, holding St. Mary scoreless while giving up four hits. Rector entered in the fifth inning and scattered three runs off four hits over three innings of work.
Benedictine scored their four runs off eight hits.
Fitzpatrick went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Mary Jo Peter added a 2 for 3 effort while Sadie Hilliard also added a 2 for 3 effort with a run scored and RBI.
The Ravens remain on the road Friday taking on No. 20 Bellevue University in Bellevue, Neb. They are scheduled to play their 2014 home opener at 1:30 p.m. Sunday as they host Bethany College at the BC Softball Field.
Against Oklahoma Wesleyan University
On Tuesday, the Ravens continued their Spring Break road trip down to Bartlesville, Okla., to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan. Benedictine dropped a couple of shootouts as the Ravens managed to pound out a combined 13 hits at the plate only to fall, 7-6 and 3-2.
Nill threw a complete game in the opener. She went seven and two-thirds before Oklahoma Wesleyan scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Nill allowed six earned runs off eight hits while striking out six.
At the plate, Chris Fluke was the Raven with a multi-hit game as she finished 2 for 4. Fitzpatrick added a double and two runs scored in the loss.
In game two, Ricklefs went six complete innings, giving up three runs off seven hits while she struckout six.
McCormick tallied a home run while Fluke went 2 for 3 with a double. Peter also went 2 for 3 to round out the Ravens top hitters.
