SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Raven softball team took to the road for their HAAC opener on Saturday as they took on conference-power Evangel University.
A late rally fell short in game one as Benedictine (4-13; 0-2 HAAC) fell to Evangel (17-5, 4-0 HAAC) 5-3. Evangel rallied late against the Ravens in game two to take the doubleheader with a 3-2 win in game two.
In game one, Katie Ricklefs earned the start for the Ravens. She threw six innings in the loss, allowing four earned runs off seven hits while striking out two.
At the plate, the Ravens were limited to four hits. Mary Jo Peter was the only Raven with a multi-hit game, as she went 2 for 3. Megan Eldredge recorded the Ravens only extra-base hit with a double.
In game two, Katelyn Nill held the Crusaders in check for six innings before they were able to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the win. Nill scattered six hits over her six and two-thirds innings of work and did not allow an earned run in the loss.
The Ravens outhit the Crusaders in game two, 7-6, while recording two extra-base hits. Eldredge went 2 for 4 while Courtney Parker added a 2 for 3 effort with a double. Sadie Hilliard added a double in the loss.
Benedictine heads to Parkville, Mo., on Friday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against No. 17 Park University after Monday's home doubleheader with the University of St. Mary was postponed.
