Baseball splits series-opening doubleheader with Baker

The Raven baseball team opened up HAAC divisional play on Saturday against Baker University with a split in the first of two doubleheaders against the Wildcats.

Benedictine took game one 10-1 behind a solid pitching performance from Eli Egger before Baker evened the series with a 5-1 win in game two.

Egger took full advantage of his offensive support in the opener.

After giving up a run in the third, he held the Wildcats scoreless over the remaining four innings which allowed Benedictine's offense to get going.

The Ravens broke up a 2-1 game in their half of the fifth, scoring seven runs off Baker starter James Gricol.

Benedictine finished game one with 12 hits, two of which were for extra bases.

Christian Patterson, Chris Johnson and CJ Kinney all went 2 for 4 at the plate with Patterson and Kinney each tallying a double. Josh Kagarise added a 2 for 2 effort with Hunter McDaniel, Jacob Franey and Johnson each driving in two runs.

In game two, the Ravens just couldn't push through at the plate against Baker starter Thomas Hawkins. Hawkins held Benedictine to just four hits over seven innings while allowing just one run.

Adam Burns took the hill for the Ravens and recorded his fourth complete game of the season in the loss. He allowed three earned runs off 11 hits while striking out five.

At the plate, Kinney drove in the lone Ravens run that was scored by Kagarise during the third inning.

The Ravens and the Wildcats wrap up their four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday back at the Ballpark at Benedictine.
