Baseball opens Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium with split

The first-ever games played inside the Asher Sports Complex took place on Saturday as the Raven baseball team hosted the University of St. Mary on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.

The two teams combined for 29 runs over 14 innings finishing the day with a split. Benedictine (2-9) earned a 12-10 win in game one before USM (4-4) earned a 5-2 win in game two.

Adam Burns earned the start on the hill for the Ravens in game one. He threw six innings, giving up nine runs off 11 hits while striking out three Spires. Paul Heit threw the seventh inning, allowing one run off two hits to secure the win for Burns and earn his first save of the season.

At the plate the Ravens belted out a season-high 11 hits to score their 12 runs.

Heit went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Jacob Kirmer added a 2-for-4 effort at the plate with three RBIs off two doubles while scoring twice. Chris Johnson added two hits and two RBIs while Logan Elliott added an RBI double.

In the second game, Eli Egger earned the start on the hill and threw a complete-game for the Ravens. He went all seven innings, allowing five runs off five hits while striking out two to suffer the loss.

Brenden Watamaniuk and Christian Patterson finished the game with two hits each with Patterson and Jacob Leathers recording the Ravens two RBIs. Josh Kagarise added a double.

The Ravens return to the road to close out the weekend with a doubleheader in Leavenworth against USM at 1 p.m.
