The Raven Baseball team opened their Easter Weekend wrap-around series against Heart of America Athletic Conference front-runner Peru State College on Thursday afternoon on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.

Peru State (23-8, 13-1 Heart ) limited Benedictine (11-19, 8-4 Heart) to five hits over 14 innings as they took the first two games of the four-game series, 5-0 and 6-0.

Peru State's Miguel Nivarro took a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning of game one that was broken up by a single off the bat of Benedictine's Paul Heit.

Lost in Nivaroo's outing, was a strong showing by Raven starting pitcher Eli Egger. Egger threw six innings, giving up four runs off nine hits before he was relieved by Casey Splane who finished off the seventh inning.

In game two, Adam Burns took the hill for the Ravens and threw five innings before he was relieved by Curtis Marchand. Burns suffered the loss, just his second of the season, giving up four earned runs off five hits with two strikeouts.

Defensively, the Ravens committed three errors behind Burns which led to a four-run fourth inning for Peru State which they were never able to overcome.

Jacob Kirmer, Christian Patterson, Matthew Jarecki and Logan Elliott recorded the Ravens four base hits in the loss.

The two teams return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday back on Laughlin Field for the final two games of the Heart divisional series. Due to Easter Break, Saturday's doubleheader will only have livestats available for those unable to make it up to campus.
