Softball splits pair of games on day two of Heart Championship Series

OVERLAND PARK – Day two of the Heart of America Athletic Conference Softball Championship Series saw the No. 5-seeded Ravens take on the top two seeds of the tournament.

Benedictine (26-16) snapped a 27-game winning streak by No. 8 Central Methodist University (38-7) in their opening game on Friday, winning 3-1, before falling in their second game to second-seeded Avila University, 5-4.

Against CMU, who had swept the Ravens on campus earlier this season, Katie Ricklefs earned the start inside the circle. She held CMU to one hit through five innings before allowing a run and two more hits in the sixth to earn the win.

At the plate, Kellie Bachkora and Alexis Richardson each went 2 for 3 with Bachkora recording a double and RBI. Benedictine's two remaining runs were unearned.

Against Avila, Annie Turbyfill got the call inside the circle and went five and one-third innings, scattering four hits. Avila scored three runs off Turbyfill but they were all unearned before she gave way to Ricklefs in relief.

The Eagles got the Ricklefs in the bottom of the seventh after she worked out of a jam in the sixth with a walk-off two-run home run to hand the Ravens their first loss of the Championship Series.

Benedictine takes on CMU at 11 a.m. Saturday back at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex to earn another shot at Avila. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on BRSN radio beginning at 10:50 a.m. Links to both the radio stream and live stats can be found on the scoreboard located below the headline stories at www.ravenathletics.com.
