Women's Soccer readies for Quarterfinal match with familiar opponent

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Benedictine Women's Soccer team traveled over 900 miles on their third straight trip to the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament and tonight, the Ravens will take on an opponent that is very familiar to them and resides around 77 miles from campus.

The No. 11 Raven Women (20-3-0) take on Heart rival and No. 12-ranked Baker University (16-3-3) at 6:30 p.m. with a trip to the national tournament semifinals on the line.

PREGAME: Tonight's match is not only a rematch between the two Heart opponents, it also marks the 14th time the two schools have faced off since the start of the 2007 season. ... Benedictine leads the series 11-2 and have won seven straight over that stretch. ... Tonight's match also marks the seventh time both teams will be ranked or receiving votes during their match. ... Benedictine earned a 3-0 win over Baker back on Sept. 21 to earn their first Heart win of the season over the then-ranked No. 13 Wildcats.

ABOUT BENEDICTINE: The Ravens enter the NAIA Quarterfinals ranked No. 8 in the nation in total shutouts with 13. ... While Benedictine has allowed three goals in the previous two matches, headed into the NAIA national tournament, the last time Benedictine allowed a goal was against Graceland University on Oct. 11 in a 2-1 win over the Yellowjackets. ... Anna Romano score twice the Ravens win over No. 5 Mobile on Monday night and has now scored three goals in five matches played at the Sportsplex. ... Tori Sanders, Liz Intfen and Abbie Hair scored the three goals against Baker in the first match up.

ABOUT BAKER: The Wildcats advances to the Quarterfinals with an upset over No. 4 William Carey (Miss.) with a 2-1 win on Monday night. ... After falling behind to William Carey, Baker scored on goals from Katie Hibbeler (57') and Keeley Atkin (76') to earn the upset. ... The Wildcats rank 22nd in the NAIA in total goals with 56. ... Hibbeler ranks 25th in the NAIA in total assists with 10. ... Rachel Hunt recorded four saves in the loss to Benedictine back in September and she recorded eight saves in the Wildcats upset on Monday night.

UP NEXT: Tonight's winner advances to the NAIA Semifinals at Noon on Friday. They will take on the winner of No. 1 Spring Arbor (MIch.) and No. 8 Vanguard (Calif).
