Baseball opens Heart divisional play with sweep over Baker University

The Raven Baseball team opened up divisional play on Saturday against rival Baker University on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium in impressive fashion.

Benedictine (13-20, 5-7 Heart) earned a sweep over Baker (11-17, 5-7 Heart) using a four-run seventh in the opener to earn a 4-3 win before taking the Wildcats down in game two with a 11-2 win.

Matthew Jarecki used a three-run double in the of the seventh to give the Ravens the walk-off win in the opener. Jarecki finished game with a 3-for-4 effort as the Ravens were held to just seven hits.

The game-winning hit also proved to be the Ravens long extra-base hit of the opener as well.

Casey Splane earned the win on the hill, throwing the final inning while allowing just one hit. Zachary Hammond took over for starting pitcher Luke Temperelli and threw a scoreless inning and one-third to keep the Ravens in the game.

In game two, Aaron Warneke limited the Wildcats bats to just seven hits over six innings as he scattered two runs over his outing to earn the win.

At the plate, Chris Johnson recorded two doubles while Jarecki added another double. Jacob Kirmer connected on a triple and Logan Finley recorded the first inside-the-park home run in Laughlin Field history. It was the Ravens first inside-the-park home run at home since the 2007 season. Finley finished with three RBIs while Johnson and CJ Kinney added a pair of RBIs each.

The Ravens wrap up the four-game series with the Wildcats at 1 p.m. Sunday back at Olsen Stadium. Sunday's doubleheader will be carried live on BRSNtv.
