Volleyball sweeps past Mount Mercy in Sunday Heart match up

The Raven Volleyball team earned their third straight sweep in Heart play on Sunday as they earned a 3-0 win over Mount Mercy University inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.

Benedictine (13-5, 6-4 Heart) wrapped up their weekend series with a 25-23, 27-25, 25-22 win over Mount Mercy (10-9, 5-5 Heart) to snap the Mustangs five-match winning streak.

The Ravens finished the sweep with 43 kills while hitting .176.

Fleur Wesselink led the attack for the second straight match as she finished with 16 kills. Sofi Thomas gave the Ravens two players with double-figure kills as she added 14. Sara Rahmanzai and Katie Stewart each recorded six kills each.

Taylor Garner anchored the offensive attack with 39 assists.

Defensively, the Ravens finished the match with 65 digs and five team blocks. Abby Brown and Haley Cochran led the back row with 16 digs each while Carly Taylor added 11. At the net, Wesselink led the way with one solo block and two block assists as Thomas, Rahmanzai and Jade Rasmussen each added two block assists.

The Ravens also finished with seven aces, led by Brown's four while Garner added two.

Benedictine continues their homestand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as the host Central Methodist University. The Eagles handed the Ravens their first loss in Heart play back on Aug. 29 in Fayette, Mo., as Benedictine fell 3-1.
