The Raven Volleyball team was able to close out their seven-match home stand on Saturday afternoon as they rallied for a five-set win over Graceland University.

Benedictine (15-6, 8-5 Heart) faced a 2-0 deficit against Graceland (9-13, 3-9 Heart) and then rallied to win 25-17, 25-20 and 15-12 to earn the comeback and close out the home stand with a 6-1 record.

The win over the Yellowjackets also snapped a three-match losing streak for the Ravens as they had not earned a win over Graceland since home sweep back on Sept. 9, 2014.

Graceland hit .357 and .400 in the first two sets to win 25-13 and 25-18 while Benedictine was limited to -.033 in set one and just .033 in set two.

The Ravens took advantage of five service errors and eight attacking errors by the Yellowjackets to earn the set three win.

Benedictine used a 13-kill set four to even the match and then added seven kills at .333 – their match high effort – to complete the comeback. While Benedictine was heating up at the net, Graceland cooled off. The Yellowjackets converted a total of 17 kills over the final two sets while converting at just .191 at the net.

Fleur Wesselink led the Ravens in kills with 13. She recorded 10 kills over the final two sets as she hit .556 to help rally Benedictine to the win. Sara Rahmanzai finished with 11 kills while Sofi Thomas added 10.

Defensively, the Ravens finished the match with six team blocks – four of which came over the final two sets. Rahmanzai led the front-line defense with three blocks assists and two solo blocks while Taylor Garner accounted for three block assists.

Garner anchored the attack, finishing the match with 37 assists while also added 12 digs defensively.

The back line defense for the Ravens was anchored by Haley Cochran with 15 digs while Abby Brown and Carly Taylor were able to match Garner with 12.

Brown added four service aces as the Ravens finished the match with 11.

Benedictine hit the road for their next match, traveling to Olathe on Oct. 10 to take on MNU at 7 p.m.
