BALDWIN CITY – The No. 9-ranked Raven Women's Basketball team traveled to the Baker Classic on Friday to face off with their third NAIA Div. I ranked opponent on Friday night as they took No. 13 Our Lady of the Lake University.
Benedictine (6-0) hit 80 percent from the free throw line with a 51.9 percent field goal percentage in the second half as they earned a 86-81 win over OLLU (2-2).
After 20 minutes of play, the two teams were locked up at 40-all at the half. After Saints outscored the Ravens 21-20 in the first quarter, Benedictine responded to outscore OLLU 20-19 in the second quarter to send the game into halftime tied.
In the third quarter, the Ravens pushed ahead by as much as nine points before taking a 66-60 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
Benedictine took advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line in the second half. They went 16 of 21 at the charity stripe while OLLU only went to the free throw line 12 times in the second half.
The Ravens held a slight edge in second chance scoring, 18-12, and points in the paint, 37-30.
Benedictine held a 43-33 rebounding edge over OLLU which helped both second chance scoring and points in the paint.
Serena Parker led the Ravens in scoring with 17 as three Ravens reached double figures. Brynn Maul scored 13 with Jordan Closter adding 12 points off the bench. In all, nine Ravens scored six points or more in the win while the majority of the Saints' points came from three scorers.
Benedictine returns to action in Baldwin City today at 1 p.m. as they take on Manhattan Christian College.
