Women's Soccer advances to NAIA Second Round with 3-0 win

The No. 9-seeded Raven Women's Soccer team used three second half goals to punch their ticket back to Orange Beach, Ala., on Saturday afternoon as they earned a 3-0 win at the BC Soccer Complex.

Benedictine (17-2-2) outshot Trinity Christian College (19-3-0) 18-8 en route to the win over the Trolls to advance to the Second Round of the 34th annual NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament.

After playing through a scoreless first half, the Ravens took advantage of their opportunities in the second half.

Benedictine's first goal of the match came during the 68th minute. Abbie Hair took a shot of her own near the middle of the goal that was deflected by Trolls keeper Emily Ponstein to a diving Anna Romano who was able to head it through the goal mouth to give the Ravens the lead.

Romano factored in on the second goal, as she beat the defense down the right side when she fed Emily Ambuul who blasted a one-touch shot past Ponstein.

With their advantage at 2-0, Rosie McShane added another goal for the Ravens when she scored from 30 yards out, bending a shot inside the far post past Ponstein.
