Softball closes out week with sweep over Baker University

BALDWIN CITY – The Raven Softball closed out an eight-game week on Sunday with a sweep over Baker University on the road.

Benedictine (19-22, 11-17 Heart) earned a 3-2 win in the opener before wrapping up the season series with a 8-2 win over Baker (23-22, 16-16 Heart) in game two. On the year, the Ravens finish with a 3-1 series win over the Wildcats having split on campus back on March 12.

Nikki McNeil earned the win in game one. She threw seven innings giving up one earned run off seven hits with four strikeouts.

Benedictine scored their three runs off three hits. Carney Meade had the Ravens long extra-base hit with a two-run home in the top of the seventh to cap off the Ravens comeback win. Melanie Braun and Sarah Methvin added the two remaining hits while Alex Burris and Methvin accounted for the remaining two runs.

In game two, the Ravens broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning to increase their lead to 5-0 and give Alex Gilham plenty of run support inside the circle.

Gilham threw a complete-game in the win, allowing two runs off three hits with three strikeouts.

Methvin finished with a home run while Molly Chevelier added a double. The six through nine hitters for the Ravens accounted for 10 of Benedictine 13 hits as Methvin, Meade, Gilham, Chevelier and Rita Maslanka finished with two hits each.

The Ravens head right back out on the road today for a doubleheader against Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. They return home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Graceland University at 2 p.m. and then head back out for doubleheaders against Missouri Valley on Thursday, Evangel University on Saturday and then they wrap up the regular season on Sunday with a doubleheader with Central Methodist University at 1 p.m.
