FAYETTE, Mo. – Playing in their second Heart Game of the Week of the season, the Raven Football team had another record-setting outing as they earned a 76-7 win over Central Methodist University (1-5) on the road.
Benedictine (5-1) bounced back over the Eagles and in the process set a new program record for single-game scoring for the second time this season. The Ravens established their new mark during week three in a 72-14 win over Avila University but that record only lasted three more weeks as Cole Holloway scored on a 12-yard rush with 2:38 left to play to give the Ravens their new record.
CMU forced a turnover on the Ravens first possession of the game, but couldn't do anything with it. From that point, the Ravens offense clicked while the Raven defense limited the Eagles offense.
Benedictine used a 35-point second quarter to break the game open as they scored twice in the remaining three quarters.
Ejay Johnson scored four touchdowns as the Ravens scored eight touchdowns on the ground. Holloway scored twice while Marquis Stewart and Shaefer Schuetz scored a rushing touchdown each.
Johnson finished the game with 145 yards off 16 carries while Holloway added 133 off 14 carries to give the Ravens two 100-yard rushers for the second time this season.
Schuetz finished with 116 yards off 7 of 14 completions with a touchdown. Todd Porter added 48 yards off 3 of 9 with the remaining touchdown.
Aaron Jackson led the recievers with 58 yards off two receptions with a touchdown while Johnson was the second-leading receiver with 53 yards off one reception. Zach Renfro caught the second passing touchdown.
The Ravens finished with 506 yards of total offense while defensively, they held CMU to just 254 yards off 71 plays with just 13 yards rushing off 33 yards.
Defensively, the Ravens forced six turnovers - three intereceptions and three fumble recoveries. As unit, the Ravens set a new season high in sacks with six while finishing with 11 tackles for a loss of 61 yards. Luke Wozny and Connor Haynes recorded two sacks each while Tyler Shepard and Tyler Thrasher had the other two. Brett Shepardson added to the scoring effort as he returned a fumble for a 60-yard touchdown.
The Ravens are off next Saturday as the just two teams from the Heart are in action before divisionally play gets underway on Oct. 14. Benedictine opens division play in Lamoni, Iowa, at 2 p.m. as they take on Graceland University.
