Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer picks up #HeartWSOC shutout over Grand View

The No. 9-ranked Raven Women's Soccer team put another notch in the win column Wednesday night at the BC Soccer Complex. Benedictine defeated the Grand View Vikings 3-0 to improve to 11-1-2 on the season, and 5-1-1 in Heart of America Conference play.

The Ravens took a lead in the 15th minute when Olivia Meyers had a header that deflected off Grand View keeper Celenka Hommel, then off the cross bar before Emily Ambuul headed the rebound into the net, giving Benedictine a 1-0 lead.

Later in the first half, Nicole Kelly sent a cross to the far side of the box to Anna Romano, who put in a one-touch shot to beat Hommel. Benedictine held the 2-0 lead at halftime, out-shooting the Vikings 11-3 in the first half.

The second half was much like the first for the Ravens. Benedictine controlled possession and tacked on another goal in the 55th minute. Isabelle Wilhelm sent a pass from near midfield into the box, connecting with Romano. The senior scored her second goal of the match by making a quick move to her left and then beating Hommel to the keeper's right with her left foot.

Later in the half, Olivia Berry made a couple of saves for the Ravens, including one off a deep free kick by the Vikings that nearly snuck under the cross bar if it hadn't been for Berry's save.

In total, the Ravens recorded 24 shots, 12 on goal, compared to five shots and two shots on goal for Grand View.

The Ravens hit the road for their next three matches. They'll play at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at William Penn. Benedictine will then have matches at Culver-Stockton and Graceland before wrapping up the regular season at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at home against Clarke University on Homecoming weekend.
