PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Raven Men's Basketball team had three players reach double figures while committing just eight turnovers on Monday night, but those efforts weren't enough as Park University held off the Ravens to earn a 63-58 win.
Benedictine (1-2) led by three points at halftime over Park (1-2) after shooting 43.8 percent and holding the Pirates to just 28.6 percent.
The Ravens dominated the paint, outscoring the Pirates 36-14 while holding Park to just 12 offensive rebounds limiting them to just six second-chance points.
The second half played through five lead changes and four ties. Thomas O'Connor made back-to-back 3-pointers for the ravens inside the final minute of the game to pull the Ravens back even with the Pirates at 57-57. The Pirates closed out the game outscoring the Ravens 6-1 to earn the five-point win.
Benedictine connected on just 5 of 28 3-pointers and went 5 for 15 at the free throw line. All five free throws came in the second half while three of their five 3-pointer came in the second half.
O'Connor finished with 12 points to lead the Ravens in scoring. Adam Kutney and Eric Krus finished with 11 points each. Jaiden Bristol added 10 assists while committing just one turnover as the Ravens finished with 16 assists.
The Ravens finished the game with 11 points off turnovers as they forced the Pirates into 15 turnovers and Benedictine also held a 13-9 advantage in points off the bench.
Benedictine remains on the road on Friday and Saturday. They travel to Baldwin City to take part in the Baker Classic. They take on former Heart opponent Avila University at 5:30 p.m. Friday before taking on Kansas Christian College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
