(2) Grand View ends Volleyball's #HeartVB Tournament run

DES MOINES – The Raven Volleyball season came to a close on Wednesday at the hands of No. 2, and top-seeded, Grand View University.

Grand View (31-0) earned the sweep over Benedictine (17-14), taking the match 25-15, 25-21, 25-13.

After trading points, the Ravens went on a 5-1 run to pull ahead of the Vikings 11-8 in the first set. They kept that three point advantage through three more rallies before Grand View closed out the set with a 15-2 run to earn the win.

In set two, after jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead, the Ravens gave up three straight points to continue the trend started in the opener. Tied at 7-7, Grand View pulled ahead by as much as eight points and looked to be headed to a big set win. Two kills by Fluer Wesselink, Mekenna Ketter and Sara Rahmanzai allowed the Ravens to gradually chip away at their deficit and pulled Benedictine back within two points, 23-21, after a kill by Paxton Throne. That would be all the close the Ravens could get as the Vikings scored two straight end set two 25-21.

Grand View used a 7-1 run in set three to turn a 7-6 lead into a 14-7 lead. The Vikings built their lead, taking advantage of five Raven attack errors - only one of which resulted in a block. Benedictine was able to cut down on their attack errors, but just couldn't dig out from under their deficit as Grand View went on to earn the 25-13 win to close out the match.

Wesselink finished with 11 kills and an attack percentage of .233 as the Ravens finished with 35 kills and a team attack percentage of .119. Ketter and Rahmanzai added seven kills each to round our the Ravens attack.

Throne finished with 28 assists while adding 10 digs.

Defensively, Abby Brown led the back line with 11 digs as the Ravens finished with 39 digs. Wesselink added two block assists while Elizabeth Nobert added one block assist and one solo block.
