Men's Basketball knocks down 17 3-pointers en route to 36-point win over Clarke

The Raven Men's Basketball team connected on a season-high 17 3-pointers on Saturday en route to their eighth straight win.

Benedictine (9-2, 6-0 Heart) went 17 of 35 from beyond the arc as they earned a 88-52 win over Clarke University (4-6, 2-3 Heart).

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Eric Krus pushed the Ravens ahead 12-3 just under four minutes into the game. It would be another 3-pointer, this time by Thomas O'Connor just over three minutes later that pushed the Ravens to their first double-digit lead of the game, 15-5.

While the Ravens connected on nine first-half 3-pointers, they also buckled down on defense. Benedictine held Clarke to just nine first-half field goals on 36 percent while limiting them to just two 3-pointers. They also forced the Pride into nine first-half turnovers while committing just five of their own.

After leading by 15 at the break, a 3-pointer from Adam Kutney and a basket in the paint from O'Connor pushed the Ravens in front by 20. Benedictine outscored Clarke 20-5 over the first six minutes of the second half to pull ahead by 30 points.

The Ravens finished the second half with 49 points off 65.4 percent from the floor with eight 3-pointers and knocking in 7 of 10 at the free throw line. They finished the game with a 54.4 percent shooting effort while converting 48.6 percent from beyond the arc with a 64.3 effort at the free throw line.

Four Ravens finished in double figures as O'Connor scored a game-high 21 points with five 3-pointers. Krus finished with 14 points with four 3-pointers while Jaiden Bristol added 12 off four 3-pointers. Colby Nickels scored 11 points to round out the Ravens top scorers.

No one from Clarke reached double figures on offense as the Ravens forced the Pride into a total of 19 turnovers, which led directly to a 18-8 advantage off turnovers.

Benedictine returns to the road on Wednesday, traveling to Kansas City, Mo., to take on NCAA Div. II Rockhurst University 7 p.m.
