Baseball opens Heart play with sweep over William Penn

The Raven Baseball team opened up Heart cross-divisional play on Saturday as they welcomed William Penn University to Laughlin Field.

Benedictine (10-8, 2-0 Heart) picked up a sweep over William Penn (7-11, 1-3 Heart) 6-2 and 9-2 as they held the Statesman scoreless for 12 of the 14 innings play.

The Ravens picked up the sweep with a pair of complete-game performances on the hill. In the opener, Kamden Miller took the mound for the Ravens and held the Statesmen to just two runs off eight hits with three strikeouts. In game two, Michael Kruse struckout four while giving up two runs – both unearned – off six hits.

At the plate, the Ravens recorded a total of 20 hits over the doubleheader with seven extra base hits. In game one, Stetson Brant and Austin Windsor recorded a pair of RBIs with Windsor and Nathan Huber hitting a home run. Matthew Jarecki added a pair of doubles as he went 2 for 2. In game two, Jarecki added two more hits, including a solo home run. Daryl Myers went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a double while Andrew Richards added a double. Gary Crist rounded out the Ravens offensive effort with two hits and two RBIs.

The Ravens host Clarke University for their second cross-divisional doubleheader at 1 p.m. Sunday back on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.
