The Raven Softball team snapped a seven-game losing streak on Sunday with a split of their Heart South doubleheader against No. 25 Baker University at the BC Softball Field.
Benedictine (21-21, 11-19 Heart) rallied with a four-run seventh inning in the opener but fell short,7-6, as Baker (31-9, 20-7 Heart) held off the rally. Benedictine walked off game two with a 5-4 win after Baker rallied to force the Ravens to bat in the bottom half of the seventh.
In game one, the Ravens scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh against Baker reliever Alexis Korte before starting pitcher Olivia Brees returned to finish off the game and earn the win.
Regina Splane hit a home run with three RBIs for the Ravens only extra-base hit of the opener. Alex Burris Blair Shanks went 2 for 4 each with Abby Hyde and Erin Ziebarth combining for three RBIs.
Lexi Ricke suffered the loss in relief. She threw four and one-third giving up five runs off five hits.
In game two, the Ravens gave up four runs in the top of the seventh to force the bottom half of the inning. The Ravens were able to get to Brees this time around. After Molly Chevalier singled to start the inning, she advanced to second after a walk to Burris. Chevalier and Burris advanced on a sacrifice by Erin Ziebarth before Tiffany Ray recorded a two-out, RBI single to drive in Chevalier and give the Ravens the split.
Ricke earned the win, finishing off the seventh as she picked up the final out for starter Alex Gilham. Gilham went six and two-thirds, giving up two earned runs off three hits.
Benedictine will close out the final week of the regular season with an eight-game stretch. Their first two doubleheaders are on the road against Missouri Valley (Monday) and Peru State College (Wednesday) before closing out the season at home on Saturday and Sunday with doubleheaders against Mount Mercy University and Clarke University.
