WICHITA – The Raven Volleyball team picked up their second win of the season on Wednesday, earning a 3-2 win over Friends University.
Benedictine (2-1) took the first two sets, 25-12, 25-22, before Friends (2-3) won the second two, 25-16, 25-21, to force a fifth and deciding set. The Ravens came back from five down at one point in the set to earn a 19-17 win and take the match 3-2.
The Ravens finished the match with a .350 attack percentage, their highest of the young season. The finished with a total of 65 kills with just 15 attack errors. Three Ravens finished the match with double figure attack totals. Fleur Wesselink led the way with 15 kills, followed by Sara Rahmanzai with 14 and Amara Feyrer-Melk with 12.
Paxton Throne anchored the offensive attack with 32 assists as the Ravens recorded 51 as a team.
Defensively, the Ravens were credited with four solo blocks. Rahmanzai led the way with three while Aretha Victalino added one. Abby Brown anchored the back row with 31 digs while Wesselink added 15 as the team finished with a total of 85.
The Ravens remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Seward, Neb., for three tournament matches. They take on Valley City State University at 5 p.m. Friday before taking on University of St. Mary and host Concordia University on Saturday.
