SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Raven Volleyball team returned on the road on Tuesday for their second Heart match of the year.
Benedictine (7-5, 2-0 Heart) picked up their second sweep of their Heart season, earning a 3-0 win over Evangel (9-8, 1-1 Heart) snapping the Crusaders winning streak.
The Ravens finished the match with a .262 attack percentage recording a match high .361 during the opening set which they earned a 24-23 win in.
Benedictine took advantage of two straight attack errors by Evangel to pull in front in set one where Paxton Throne ended the match with one of her three kills.
A block by Evangel tied set two at 24-24 and then the Crusaders pulled ahead on a kill by Heather Gahm. Sara Rahmanzai connected on one of her eight kills to push the Ravens ahead 25-24 and then another attacking error by the Crusaders gave the Ravens a 27-25 win in set two.
A kill by Sydney Wiedenmann followed by an ace from Abby Brown pushed the Ravens ahead by three points early in set three and the Crusaders where never able to rebound. Benedictine pushed ahead by as much as five points twice as they moved on to earn a 25-21 win to seal the sweep.
Wesselink finished with 17 kills, a new three-set individual season high, to lead the Ravens attack that finished with a total of 42. Throne anchored the offensive attack with 35 assists to go along with eight digs and three block assists.
Defensively, the Ravens finished with eight team blocks. Rahmanzai led the front line with five block assists while Elizabeth Nobert added one solo block and two block assists. Brown finished with 14 digs while Hannah Thomazin added eight digs to match Throne's total.
Benedictine remains on the road Friday and Saturday for a pair of Heart matches. They travel to Fayette, Mo., on Friday to take on (RV) Central Methodist University and then on Saturday they travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College. Friday's match is at 7 p.m. and Saturday's match is at 2 p.m.
