(20) William Penn stops Women's Basketball winning streak at six

The Raven Women's Basketball hung with No. 20 William Penn University all night Monday, but the Statesmen were able to leave Ralph Nolan Gymnasium with a 75-64 win, ending the Ravens six-game winning streak.

Penn (16-1, 11-1 Heart) was able to outscore the Ravens in each quarter, turning a 3-point halftime lead into the 11-point win. Coming up big for WPU was Vashti Nwagbaraocha, who scored 31 points, grabbed nine rebounds, nabbed four steals and dished out three assists. The post player missed just three shots on the night and played 39 out of the game's 40 minutes.

The Ravens were led by Ali Brzozowski's 23 points off the bench. She also had six rebounds. Joining her in double-figures were LaRanda Thomas with 12 points and Grace Brzozowski with 11 points.

The Ravens shot 52 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from behind the 3-point line. WPU was 54.2 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from deep.

Penn grabbed four more rebounds than the Ravens, 25-21, and shot 10 more free throws, 17-7.

The first half was an exciting offensive showcase by both schools. The Ravens shot 55.6 percent in the opening 20 minutes, nearly matched by Penn's 55.2 percent.

The Statesmen took a 19-18 lead after one quarter and held a 39-36 advantage at the halftime break. The Ravens were led by Ali Brzozowski's 15 points and four rebounds at halftime, while Penn was paced by Nwagbaraocha, who scored 19 points in the first half.

The Ravens were able to take a brief lead in the second quarter, but the teams went back-and-forth several times up and down the court, with the Statesmen eventually grabbing the halftime lead.

Next up for the Ravens (11-7, 6-6 Heart) is a road contest at Missouri Valley College on Wednesday, Jan. 16.
