Volleyball falls in Heart North road trip to Mount Mercy and Clarke

The Raven Volleyball team dropped a pair of road games over the weekend as they took on Heart North opponents Mount Mercy University and Clarke University.

On Friday night, the Ravens fell to the Mustangs 3-1 and then on Saturday afternoon, the Ravens were swept by the Pride, 3-0.

Against Mount Mercy, the Ravens finished the four-set match with an attack percentage of .121. Fleur Wesselink led the team in kills with 15 while Haylie Dickerson added 11. Paxton Throne finished with 24 assists while Taea Kapels added 13.

Defensively, the Ravens finished with 99 digs as four players finished in double figures. Taylor Shroll finished with a team-high 22 digs. Hannah Thomazin was close behind with 21 while Wesselink added 19. Hailey Fokers finished with 10 to round out the Ravens backline defensive efforts. As a team, Benedictine finished with 13 team blocks. Elizabeth Nobert finished with five blocks assists and two solo blocks, Dickerson added four block assists and one solo block while Throne finished with four block assists.

Against Clarke, Wesselink led the attack with 12 kills while Aretha Victalino just missed out on giving the Ravens a second hitter in double figures with nine. Throne finished with 22 of the Ravens 33 assists as Kapels and Emily Dalton finished with five each.

Thomazin led the defensive effort with 10 digs while the Ravens were limited to just four team blocks.

Benedictine (13-17, 8-6 Heart) remains on the road Tuesday traveling to Baldwin City to take on Baker University. They return home on Saturday to host NAIA-ranked Central Methodist University at 11 a.m. as part of the annual Homecoming Weekend.
