Women's Soccer broke through in the second half to pick up a 3-0 Heart of America win. The (13) Ravens defeated the Graceland Yellowjackets at home on Legacy Field Tuesday night to earn their fifth shutout in Heart play.
The teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes, but Nicole Kelly put the Ravens in front early in the second half. Her shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box beat the Yellowjackets keeper to put the Ravens up 1-0 with 38:30 left in the second half.
The second Ravens goal came 7 minutes later as Sydney Routh sent a cross from the left side of goal towards center, finding Emma Strecker for the goal and a 2-0 lead.
That wasn't all for the Ravens. A minute later, Kelly sent a center cross to Routh, who went high on her shot, deflecting off the crossbar and in for a goal to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead, which they carried the remainder of the match.
The first half was scoreless, despite a few chances for both teams. Kelly had the Ravens best chances, taking eight shots. Two of those shots came on goal; one was saved and the other ricocheted off the left post. Kelly also had another shot that barely missed the bottom right corner, skipping just past the post.
The Yellowjackets were able to challenge the Ravens Ashley Rehagen with seven shots, but Rehagen saved all five that were put on goal.
The Ravens finished with 28 shots, (12 on goal). Olivia Berry took the second half in goal for the Ravens, making three saves.
Next up for the Ravens (11-2, 5-1 Heart) is a Saturday, Oct. 12 match at Baker University.
