Volleyball season ends in #HeartVB Quarterfinals with loss to (11) Grand View

DES MOINES – The Raven Volleyball season came to an end for the fourth straight season on Saturday at the hands of nationally-ranked Grand View University, this time in the Heart Volleyball Quarterfinals.

The Vikings took the match 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 to advance to the Heart Semifinals and end the Ravens season with an overall record of 14-20.

In the opening set, the Ravens jumped ahead on kills from Fleur Wesselink and Donetta Cage. The Vikings were able to climb back into the match but could never distance themselves from the Ravens. Benedictine took advantage of three straight attack errors to pull ahead 13-12 before the Vikings went on a 12-2 run to take the set.

In the second set, the Ravens held a 3-1 before the Vikings used a 6-0 run to pull ahead. The Ravens managed to remain within arm's length of the Vikings throughout the set but could never sustain serve long enough to close in. Grand View closed out the set with five straight points after a kill from Sydney Wiedenmann made it 20-15 Grand View.

The final set went much like the second. After scoring the sets first point on a kill from Wesselink, the Ravens fell behind to rally and tie the game at 4-4. From there the Vikings built their advantage three points at a time before pulling they were able to distance themselves from the Ravens to earn the sweep.

Wesselink finished with eight kills while Elizabeth Nobert added six. Wiedenmann recorded five kills while Cage finished with four as the Ravens hit just .092 with a total of 27 kills. Paxton Throne finished with 20 assists while Taea Kaples added six.

Taylor Shroll finished with nine digs as the Ravens recorded a total of 26 while Jade Rasmussen and Nobert led the way at the net with two block assists each.
