MARSHALL, Mo. – A game after setting a new season-high for made 3-pointers, the Raven Women's Basketball team matched that number on Tuesday night in their win over Missouri Valley College.
Benedictine (8-1, 3-1 Heart) connected on 11 3-pointers as they earned a 79-73 over Vikings.
The Ravens came out of the gate on fire from beyond the arc, connecting on six 3-pointers as they built a 29-18 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Vikings opened up the second quarter on a 12-2 run and with just over three minutes left before halftime, they erased Benedictine's lead and pushed ahead 37-36.
After pushing their advantage to six points at the half, the Vikings pulled ahead of the Ravens by as much as 10 points before the Ravens mounted their comeback. A pair of free throws from Anna Sanjuan in the final seconds of the third quarter pulled the Ravens back even heading into the final 10 minutes and then Sanjuan started off the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer that gave the Ravens their first lead since the second quarter.
Benedictine never gave back that lead as they moved on to earn their third straight win in Heart play. The finished the game shooting 55 percent from beyond the arc with a 45.8-percent effort from the floor. Both percentages set a new season-high for the Ravens as they also connected on a season-high 70.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Four Ravens reached double figures, led by Kayla Staley with 16 points. She went 7 of 10 from the floor to match the single-game high for field goals in a game this season. Grace Brzozowski added 14 points while Sanjuan and Rylee Neill each finished with 11 points each. Rachael Baumgartner led the Ravens in rebounds with 11 as Benedictine finished with a 37-29 advantage on the glass.
The Ravens return to the road on Dec. 5 as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to take on Grand View University at 5:30 p.m.
