Men's Basketball wins fourth straight in Heart play with 12-point road win

DES MOINES – The Raven Men's Basketball team won their fourth straight Heart of America Athletic Conference game in a row on Thursday night as they earned a road win over Grand View University, 69-57.

Saxton Thuston gave Benedictine (5-4, 4-1 Heart) a 12-10 lead with 12:30 left in the first half and the Ravens never looked back en route to the win.

The Ravens pushed their advantage to 10 points four times in the first half before taking a 33-26 lead into halftime. A 3-pointer from Wills Wallrap gave the Ravens their first double-figure lead which was followed up by baskets from Jaiden Bristol, Matt Austin, and Jayden Temme to keep the Ravens in front by 10. Temme's basket came with just under four minutes left in the half.

Benedictine shot 42.6 percent from the floor in the first half while holding Grand View to 34.4 percent.

The Ravens pushed their lead to 15 points early in the second half, which proved to be their largest of the game. They reached that margin twice before the Vikings closed within six with just over seven minutes remaining. Benedictine held Grand View to just seven points over the final seven minutes of the game as they moved on to earn the 12-point win.

Austin led the Ravens in scoring with a game-high 20 points. Wallrapp finished with 13 while Bristol added 11 points and 9 rebounds. Tyson Cathy led the Ravens with 10 rebounds to go along with 7 points as the Ravens finished with a 32-12 advantage in the paint.

Benedictine returns home for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday against Culver-Stockton College. Admission is free with the donation of an unopened toy at the ticket table. All toys will be kept locally, donated to the Atchison Salvation Army to help families in need in the Atchison community this holiday season. Saturday is also the annual Snowstorm Game with the snow forecasted for the 12th point of the men's game.
