A big second quarter propelled the (RV) Raven Women's Basketball past the Graceland Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium..
The Ravens (18-8, 13-7 Heart of America) scored 26 points in the second quarter en route to an 87-61 win, their seventh-straight victory.
Graceland stayed within striking distance in the first quarter thanks to full-court pressure that forced a few turnovers. However, the Ravens adjusted to the press and took off in the second quarter, out-pacing Graceland 26-14 in the frame to take a 45-26 lead into the halftime break.
Rachael Baumgartner helped get the Ravens going in the first half, scoring 7 of the team's first 11 points. She finished the game with 14 points, matching a season high, and also grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Ravens didn't let the intermission slow down their rhythm. The second half started with back-to-back 3-pointers by Rylee Neill and Grace Brzozowski, and the Lady Ravens went on to score 23 points in the third quarter to take a 68-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
With the large lead, all suited-up players saw the court for the Ravens and 11 of the 13 scored.
Ali Brzozowski was strong off the bench, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Skylar Washington also added a punch off the bench, notching 13 points. Grace Brzozowski and Sam Brennan each added 10 points. The Ravens shot 53. 1 percent from the floor and 47.6 percent from behind the 3-point line. They held Graceland to 33.8 percent shooting and 19.2 percent from deep.
The win avenges the Ravens loss at Graceland earlier this season. It also marks the seventh-straight win for the team and the Lady Ravens haven't dropped a contest since Jan. 16 at Missouri Valley College. Their 13-7 mark in conference play has them in a tie for third place in the Heart with Central Methodist University.
Next up for the Lady Ravens is a 5:30 p.m. matchup at home on Wednesday, Feb. 13 against Evangel.
