Women's Lacrosse earns season-opening win over Rockhurst 17-12

In what was originally scheduled as their season-opener on Saturday, turned into the home opener for (8) Raven Women's Lacrosse as they earned a 17-12 win over NCAA Div. II Rockhurst University.

Benedictine (1-0) jumped out to a 12-3 lead at halftime and then held on for the five-goal win as they withstood a nine-goal second half by Rockhurst (0-1).

Rockhurst took the opening draw and struck first before trading goals with Benedictine as Marianna Anderson scored twice for the Hawks while Natalie Wechter scored twice for the Ravens. Clare Ryan scored the Ravens third goal off an assist from Emily Ruhland that gave Benedictine a lead they would never give back.

Benedictine held a 23-8 advantage in shots in the first half and finished the game with a 34-26 advantage.

Wechter and Aidan McEnerney each scored four goals for the Ravens in the win. Molly Muehlebach added three while Mary McEnerney and Ryan finished with two each. Kacey Moore and Ruhland added a goal each to round out the Ravens scoring efforts. Ruhland led the team with three assists while Ryan added two. Mary McEnerney and Wechter finished with an assist each as the Ravens tallied a total of seven assists on their 17 goals.

Defensively, Taryn St. Louis finished with seven saves to earn the win in goal. Benedictine finished with a 16-15 advantage in draw contols while tallying eight caused turnovers.

The Ravens hit the road for their next four games before returning home on March 14 to take on (6) Georgetown College in what was scheduled initially as their home opener.
