Before Mother Nature turned on the deep freeze Thursday, the Raven Baseball team was able to get the first half of their scheduled doubleheader with Morningside College in.

Benedictine (4-1) scored seven unanswered to rally past Morningside to pick up the 7-3 win and finish off their first homestand of the season at 2-1.

Michael Kruse earned the start for the Ravens and threw the first four and one-third innings before he was relieved by Ben Hankammer and Jacob Slaten. Kruse finished with five strikeouts while giving up three runs off eight hits. Hankammer threw one inning, holding the Mustangs scoreless off two hits to earn the win while Slaten picked up the save, throwing the final inning and two thirds not allowing a hit.

Jacob Paylyak anchored the Ravens at the plate. He went 3 for 4 with two runs scored with two doubles. Andrew Richards and Drew Piontek added a double each with Piontek adding two RBIs. Richards and Brendon Glock recorded the Ravens remaining RBIs in the win

The Ravens are scheduled to host Ottawa University on Tuesday but depending on the amount of snow that falls over the weekend, that game is likely to be canceled. Beyond Tuesday, the Ravens are also scheduled to play a home series with St. Ambrose University on Saturday and Sunday but a Winter Storm is expected to hit the region again on Tuesday evening putting that series in jeopardy as well.
