FAYETTE, Mo. – For three quarters, the sixth-seeded Raven Women's Basketball team gave three-seeded Central Methodist University all they could handle on Wednesday night in the Quarterfinals of the Heart Postseason Tournament.
CMU (20-11) responded with a 23-point fourth quarter to erase the Benedictine (18-13) lead and hand the Ravens a 68-55 loss.
After trailing by two points to earn the first quarter, the two teams match each other in the second quarter which allowed CMU to take a 29-27 lead into halftime. Benedictine used a 24-point third quarter to turn their halftime deficit into as much as an 11-point lead during the third quarter before taking a 51-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles continued an offensive run from the end of the third quarter into the fourth quarter as they began to erase the Ravens lead. After scoring the final four points of the third quarter, the Eagles scored 19 straight to open the fourth quarter as they scored 12 points off Benedictine turnovers as they erased the Ravens lead and pulled ahead by 13 with five minutes left in the game.
In total, the Eagles were able to scored 34 points off 31 Raven turnovers while Benedictine scored 11 off 17 turnovers by CMU. Benedictine did finish with the advantage off the bench, outscoring CMU 24-20 while they also won the rebounding battle with 44 total rebounds.
Kayla Staley led the Ravens with 18 points while Mercedes Jefflo finished with 30 for the Eagles. Sam Brennan was the Ravens second leading scorer with 8 points while Skylar Washing and Ali Brzozowski added seven each. Brzozowski was the Ravens leading rebounder with 10.
