The Spring Sports season got underway on Sunday as the (RV) Raven Men's Lacrosse team welcomed NCAA Div. II Rockhurst University to the BC Athletic Complex.
Rockhurst (1-0) picked up a season-opening win against Benedictine (0-1), 27-6.
After giving up two quick goals to start the game, the Ravens first goal of the season came with just over nine minutes left to play in the first quarter when Peter Girard found Kyle Tomc.
Rockhurst scored seven unanswered to break the game open and never looked back. Benedictine added two goals in the second quarter from Girard to send the game to the half with the Hawks leading 15-3.
The Ravens finished with 26 shots as five players tallied a goal. Girard finished with two goals and one assists while Joseph Doyle, Brady Guck and Jack Kandoth added second-half goals. Tomc led the Ravens with two assists while Doyle and Kanduth added an assist each.
Rockhurst controlled the ball winning 31 of 35 faceoffs, which included 11 of 11 in the second half.
Benedictine used three goalies in the game. Dustin Reis suffered the loss earning the start. He finished with eight saves before he was subbed out for Matthew Pagnotta and Duncan Loud. Pagnotta tallied three saves while Loud tallied seven.
The Ravens return to action on Feb. 22, traveling to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Missouri Baptist University. They return home on Feb. 24 to host NAIA-ranked Indiana Tech at 11 a.m. back at the BC Athletic Complex.
