The Raven Baseball team stepped our of Heart play on Monday afternoon to host a single, nine-inning game with Hastings College on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.
Benedictine (13-3) scored three runs in the first and second inning to break the game open against the Broncos en route to a 12-2 run-rule win.
Ben Costello earned the start on the hill for the Ravens He threw the first two and one-third innings before he was relieved by Preston Pope and Trevor Albert. Costello finished allowed two runs off four hits before Pope and Albert shut down the Broncos for the rest of the game. Pope earned the win throwing three and two-thirds and was the pitcher of record when the game became official. He held the Broncos hitless over his time on the hill while Albert finished off the game and also held Hastings hitless.
Benedictine finished with 14 hits at the plate. Austin Watamaniuk and Jacob Pavlyak both went 3 for 4 at the plate while Michael Slaten and Daryl Myers each went 2 for 3. Slaten added a home run, Danny Favazza and Watamaniuk each recorded a double while Myers finished with a triple. Pavlyak led the way with four RBI while Slaten added three with Myers rounding out the Raven hitters with two.
The Ravens are off until the weekend when they travel to Marshall, Mo., to take on Missouri Valley College in their second Heart divisional series. They are scheduled to play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a single, nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
