(RV) Men's Lacrosse advances to first-ever KCAC Championship title game with 15-8 win

LEAVENWORTH – The (RV) Raven Men's Lacrosse team will play for their first KCAC Championship title on Saturday after they earned a 15-8 win over (7) Columbia College in Thursday's KCAC Championship semifinals at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium on the campus of the University of St. Mary.

Benedictine (9-4) used a seven-goal fourth quarter to pull away from Columbia (7-7) as they knocked off the Cougars for the second time this season.

After playing to a 5-4 advantage at the half, the Ravens shutout the Cougars in the third quarter before outscoring them 7-4 in the fourth. Defensively, the Ravens limited the Cougars to just seven shots in the third quarter and a total of 32 on the day.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, Kyle Tomc ended the Ravens scoreless drought late in the quarter to begin Benedictine's comeback. Brady Guck, Tyler Santini and Trevor Svoboda scored three straight to give the Ravens their first lead with just over eight minutes left in the second quarter. Columbia answered to tie the game at four before Tomc added his second goal to give the Ravens the lead headed into half.

Benedictine never gave that halftime lead back as they moved on for the seven-goal win.

Tomc and Guck led the Ravens with four goals each. Svoboda, Santini and Remy Dujakovich finished with two goals while Ryan Heinser capped off the scoring with one goal. James Carson and Svoboda led the Ravens with three assists each. Peter Girard and Guck added two while Dujakovich and Heinser finished with one assist each.

Duncan Loud earned the win in goal for the Ravens. He finished with eight saves, four of which came in the second half and helped the Ravens pull away from the Cougars.

The Ravens will take on (4) Missouri Valley College at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Vikings advanced to the championship game with a 22-13 win over Ottawa University on Thursday, The Ravens closed out their home schedule this season with a 20-11 win over Missouri Valley back on April 10 – handing the Vikings their first-ever regular-season loss in KCAC play.
