The No. 2-ranked Raven Women's Lacrosse team got another step closer to their third straight outright KCAC Championship on Saturday as they earned a 24-1 win over St. Ambrose University.
Benedictine (12-0, 5-0 KCAC) held a 38-4 advantage in shots over St. Ambrose (6-2, 2-2 KCAC) as they nearly pulled off their third shutout in conference play. The Fighting Bees scored in the finals seconds to break up the shutout bid as the Ravens earned a 24-1 win.
Molly Muehlebach scored the Ravens first goal of the game off an assist from Mary McEnerney just 29 seconds into the game. It was Natalie Wechter who scored the 10th goal of the game off another assist from Mary McEnerney that kicked in the mercy rule for the remainder of the match.
Benedictine led 15-0 at the half and then added nine straight in the second half before St. Ambrose scored the final goal of the game.
Defensively, the Ravens forced 12 turnovers with 11 of those credited as caused turnovers – a new season high. Kacey Moore, Muehlebach and Mary McEnerney led the defensive efforts with two caused turnovers each. Teresa Petruccelli earned the win in goal for the Ravens, playing the first half and recording two saves.
Wechter and Clare Ryan led the Ravens in scoring with five goals each. Muehlebach finished with four while Emily Ruhland added three. Mary McEnerney and Moore scored twice with Anne Marie Mannella, Aiden McEnerney and Erin Rauber scoring one goal each. Mary McEnerney, Wechter and Ruhland led the Ravens with three assists each. Ryan added two assists with Muehlebach, Mannella, Aident McEnerney, Moore and Megan Rossman finished with one assist each.
The Ravens host Missouri Valley College at 4 p.m. Tuesday as they close out the KCAC regular season against the Vikings.
