BALDWIN CITY – The (RV) Raven Baseball team was able to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday as they took the middle game of their three-game series with Baker University but in the end, the Wildcats were able to win the series over the Ravens as they held off a comeback in the series finale.
Baker took game one on Friday, 15-7, before the Ravens earned an 8-6 win to open up the Saturday doubleheader. The Ravens rallied to score three runs late in game three only to have the Wildcats counter with three of their own to take game three, 8-5.
In the opener, Jacob Slaten earned the start on the hill for the Ravens. He went two and one-thirds innings, giving up 10 runs - only six of which were earned - off six hits to suffer the loss.
At the plate, the two teams matched each other with 15 hits but in the end, it was three errors that helped lead to a 10-run third inning for the Wildcats to break the game open.
Danny Favazza and Jacob Pavlyak recorded three hits to lead the Ravens at the plate. Pavlyak and Nathan Huber finished with a double each while Logan Finley finished with a home run and three RBI.
Michael Kruse got the call on the hill in the second game of the series on Saturday. He went the distance, throwing all seven innings while giving up two earned runs off seven hits with eight strikeouts to earn the win.
Jordan Williams anchored the Ravens at the plate. He went 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Austin Watamaniuk added two hits and two runs while Favazza drove in two. Pavlyak added a double and RBI to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.
In the series finale, the Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings. The Ravens rallied to score four over the seventh and eighth before the Wildcats responded with a three-run bottom half of the eighth to earn the win.
Kam Miller earned the start He threw the first five and two-thirds innings and finished with five strikeouts in the no decision. Jacob Curry suffered the loss, throwing one and two-thirds. He gave up three runs off one hit with two strikeouts in the loss.
The Ravens were limited to six hits at the plate. Pavlyak and Andrew Richards recorded two hits each with Richards recording a double and RBI.
Benedictine returns to Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium for a three-game divisional series on Friday and Saturday with Evangel University. The two teams will play a nine-inning game on Friday starting at 1 p.m., followed by a 7/9 doubleheader on Saturday.
