Women's Soccer earns season-opening shutout over Sterling College

The No. 5-ranked Raven Women's Soccer team opened up their season on Monday night against Sterling College.

Benedictine (1-0-0) earned a convincing win over Sterling (0-1-0) as they held the Warriors without a shot en route to a 9-0 win on campus.

Nicole Kelly scored the first goal of the season for the Ravens during the eighth minute from just outside the box. Kelly finished the game with a total of four goals adding goals during the 22nd minute, 29th minute and 63rd minute.

Emily Ambuul scored the second goal of the game during the 13th minute as she finished with two goals on the night adding her second during the 52 minute. Natalie Duque also had a two-goal night as she scored during the 22nd minute and 58th minute. The final goal scorer on the night for the Ravens was Megan Homoly, who scored her first collegiate goal during the 29th minute.

Emma Strecker led the Ravens with two assists as the Ravens tallied an assist on eight of their nine goals. Ambuul added two assists to finish with six points on the night. Maisy Louree, Isabelle Wilhelm and Duque finished with one assist each.

Ashley Rehagen earned the win in goal as she shared the shutout with Olivia Berry as the duo split the game.

Benedictine finished with a 49-0 advantage in shots while finishing with a 25-0 lead in shots on goal. The nine-goal effort was the most goals for the Ravens since their 2018 season opener when they beat College of St. Mary 11-0.

The Ravens have a quick turnaround, hosting No. 3-ranked Southeastern (Fla.) College at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
