FULTON, Mo. – The Raven Volleyball team continued their season-opening road swing on Tuesday night, traveling to William Woods University.
William Woods (2-1) took the first two sets of the match 25-17 and 25-19 before Benedictine (3-2) avoided the sweep taking the third set 29-27. The Owls were able to end the match with a fourth-set win, 25-19, to take the match and snap the Ravens three-match winning streak.
As a team, the Ravens were limited to just .085 on the attack with a match-high .222 hitting percentage in their set-three win. Just one Raven finished in double figures on the attack as Fleur Wesselink finished the match with 10 kills.
Paxton Throne anchored the offensive attack with 21 assists as the team finished with 29 overall.
Defensively, the Ravens recorded 58 digs as three Ravens reached double figures. Wesselink led the defensive effort with 14 digs and four block assists while Hannah Thomazin and Taylor Shroll finished with 12 and 10 digs respectively. Aretha Victalino added two block assists and one solo block while Emily Demos added three block assists.
The Owls connected on .203 of their attacks with two players in double figures and they recorded five team blocks.
Benedictine remains on the road for the Bulldog Bash on Friday and Saturday in Seward, Neb., at Concordia University.
