Volleyball drops Heart opener on the road at MNU, 3-0

OLATHE – The Raven Volleyball team wrapped up their season-opening road swing on Tuesday night with a trip to MNU to open up Heart of America Athletic Conference play against the Pioneers.

MNU held the Ravens at arm's length throughout the course of the match as the Pioneers earned a conference-opening sweep, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16.

Benedictine (5-9, 0-1 Heart) hit .222 in the opening set but couldn't overcome the Pioneers' .353 attack. After converting 13 kills in the opening set, the Ravens were unable to break double figures in the final two sets.

The Ravens finished with 30 kills as a team, led by Fleur Wesselink with 12 and Elizabeth Nobert with 10. Paxton Throne set up the offensive attack, recording all 29 of the team's assists.

Defensively, the Ravens finished with 42 digs led by the 10 digs of Taylor Shroll and Throne. At the net, the Ravens finished with just three team blocks as Jade Rasmussen finished with two block assists.

Benedictine makes their home debut on Friday at 7 p.m. as they host William Penn University. The remain at home on Saturday, hosting a the Raven Triangular with (7) Grand View University and McPherson College. The Ravens take on Grand View at Noon, followed by their match with McPherson at 2 p.m. Grand View and McPherson conclude the day with the final match at 4 p.m.
