SEWARD, Neb. – The Raven Volleyball team continued their season on Friday and Saturday at the annual Bulldog Bash hosted by Concordia University as the posted a 2-2 mark, splitting the two days of competition.
On Friday, the Ravens opened with a 3-2 win over Mayville State (S.D.) before falling to Briar Cliff University 3-1. They wrapped up the weekend with a 3-2 win over Waldorf University on Saturday before falling to Concordia 3-0.
Against Mayville State, the Ravens finished the match with a .112 attack percentage as they finished with 64 kills. Fleur Wesselink led three Ravens in double figures with 15 kills followed by Elizabeth Nobert with 13 and Sydney Wiedenmann with 11. Paxton Throne set up the offensive attack, recording 34 of the Ravens 51 assists
Defensively, the Ravens finished with 79 digs and four team blocks. Hannah Thomazin led the backline effort with 20 digs while Wesselink recorded 15. Taylor Shroll and Hailey Folkers finished with 11 each to round out the backline effort. Nobert added two solo blocks while Shroll and Aretha Victalino finished with one block assist.
With her 15 kills against Mayville State, Wesselink reached 1,000 kills for her career at Benedictine.
Against Briar Cliff, the Ravens won the first set before the Chargers won the next three to take the match. As a team, the Ravens finished with a .172 attack percentage as they finished with 44 kills. Wesselink led the way with 13 followed by Nobert with 10. Throne anchored the offensive attack with 30 of the Ravens 38 assists.
Defensively, Thomazin and Shroll finished with 10 digs each while Wiedenmann and Emily Wind finished with one solo block and one block assist each.
In the five-set win over Waldorf, the Ravens finished with a tournament-high .208 attack percentage as they finished with 50 kills. Nobert and Wesselink finished with 10 kills each while Donetta Cage added nine. Throne recorded 35 of the Ravens 44 assists on the match.
Defensively, Thomazin finished with 11 digs while Throne and Shroll added 10. At the net, the Ravens finished with 10 team blocks. Nobert led the way with two solo blocks and five block assists. Wesselink, Wiedenmann and Kate Hanson added two block assists each.
In the tournament finale, Concordia swept the Ravens and held them to just a .065 attack percentage. Wesselink finished with eight kills while Throne added 18 assists.
Defensively, Thomazin finished with eight digs while Wesselink added six.
The Ravens continue their season-opening road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on the College of St. Mary.
